Best Books For the Aspiring Yogi

When I first began to study yoga there were only a few books available to the Western student. The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga, by Swami Vishnu-devananda was my first introduction in the late ’60′s, but today the shelves are groaning under the weight of yoga texts. If you are unsure what to buy for yourself or as a gift to a budding yogi then let me offer a few suggestions. I have narrowed down the offerings to what I feel make an excellent introduction to the practice of yoga and ones you will refer to over and over again. So, whether you are just beginning a yoga practice or have been studying with a teacher for many years, these books will only add to your understanding and appreciation of the art and science of yoga.

Light on Yoga, by BKS Iyengar
One of the first and best compendiums of yoga postures with an introduction that details the 8 Limbs of yoga. First published in 1966 it is a much younger Iyengar that we see in the photos compared to his recent autobiography Light on Life, The Yoga Journey to Wholeness, Inner Peace, and Ultimate Freedom. Both books are a must for all serious practitioners.click here http://blog.ideafit.com/blogs/healthcareplan/information-about-hypersensitivity

Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda
First published in 1946 and considered a spiritual and literary classic, the life of Paramahansa Yogananda has been translated into 18 languages. It is the story of Yogananda’s study and training with the illumined masters and saints of India. Described as inspiring, entertaining, funny and amazing you will learn much about the science and philosophy of yoga.

The Heart of Yoga, Developing a Personal Practice, by T.K.V. Desikachar
Desikachar’s father, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, is considered to be the father of our Western style of yoga. This is rich reading based as it is on Krishnamacharya’s teachings and his practical approach to yoga. In Desikachar’s words, “basically a program for the spine at every level—physical, mental, and spiritual.” The photo’s are pretty amazing as well.VISIT HERE http://www.bubblews.com/news/1618075-information-about-hypersensitivity
